Have you ever stopped to think of how much is lavished on mommas? Flowers, cards, time, money all go into making mothers feel special.
According to Oberlo, in the US “Mother's Day statistics show that annual expenditure to honor the special day has been rising since 2019. Total Mother's Day spending in 2019 hit $25 billion, a 7.8% annual rise, before growing again by 7% in 2020, to $26.7 billion. In 2021, expenditure topped $28.1 billion, after a 5.2% increase…. 2022 saw Mother’s Day spending hit a total of $31.7 billion—the first time it surpassed the $30 billion mark.”
Wow…mothers are really being taken care of and increasingly so each year.
What about Father’s Day? According to the US National Retail Federation in 2022, “Consumer spending on Father's Day was expected to total $20 billion, nearly on par with the previous year's record-setting figure of $20.1 billion, according to the annual consumer survey. Approximately 76 percent of U.S. adults were expected to celebrate Father's Day in 2022.” It further shows that 50% of this spending for 2022 was clothing.
The disparity between the two is so clear. BILLIONS more spent on mothers each year. Certainly it is not that there are so many ‘dead beat dads’. There are many fathers, step-fathers, grand-fathers and father figures who are super heroes in our lives – upstanding citizens, girl dads, single dads who are actively involved in the lives of their children.
They deserve to be treated well. They deserve to feel special too.
